I came up with this pattern when I wanted to make a hat for my boys that didn’t look too feminine and wasn’t too plain.  I have since adapted it and changed it to use a whole host of colours depending on what I have in my stash.  This kids can be used with your favourite DK yarn and in any two colours that you wish. It  is soft, stretchy and warm.  This hat actually fits a small adult but is designed to be comfortable for the head of a child from about 5 upwards.  This is a good pattern for someone who is moving on from being a beginner to gaining some extra techniques making their work more refined.  I’ve called it a Wally striped hat because I do find it reminiscent of the Wally character in the famous books (Waldo if you are in the US).

I prefer having a foundation treble crochet to making a foundation chain for this hat because you can build your first row and connect the ends to then carry on crocheting in the round.
