Twisted Simple Stitch Tunisian Crochet

 Twisted Simple Stitch-Tunisian Crochet

An easy non-curling Tunisian Crochet stitch

I have seen on Instagram Tunisian Crochet getting some bad press and I wanted to change the perception of Tunisian Crochet.  It can be difficult to get into once you are an established crocheter.  It may feel like going back to the beginning and may feel limiting at first but actually it opens up a whole new world of creativity for those who love to crochet.  I have already written about the Extended Knit Stitch for Tunisian Crochet in my pattern for the Southwestern Sunrise Blanket.  Another stitch that I find very quick and easy with very little curl is the Twisted Simple Stitch.  Unlike the regular simple stitch which builds the rows almost on top of each other and causes unbearable curling, adding the twist makes the texture flat  and less bulky.  In my photos I have used a method of alternating between two colours, picking up the new colour on the return pass.  I love this technique because it gives a beautiful woven effect and it also makes it easy to see your stitches.

Here is how you do it in Photos:
Step 1: The first stitch of the row is a Tunisian Simple stitch

Step 2: For all other stitches in the row identify the front bar.

Step 3: Insert the tip of your hook into the far side of the stitch and pull the stitch down and over your hook.  You will now have the stitch on your hook.

Step 4: Yarn over and pull through a loop.

Step 5: You have now completed a Twisted Simple Stitch and repeat to the end of the row.

At the end of the row you must insert your hook through the last stitch as for any other Tunisian Crochet stitch and complete the return row as per usual (YO and pull through 1 loop to close the end stitch, YO and pull through 2 loops until you have only 1 loop on your hook and are at the start of the row.

Repeat the steps

It is really that simple.  If you want to have the alternating colours, change at the end the twisted stitches, before you begin your return pass.

These pictures are from a baby blanket project.  I will hopefully have a video and pattern up soon!
